Versailles FFA Helps Spread Christmas Cheer

Members of the Versailles FFA have been extremely busy during the month of December helping spread Christmas cheer in the Versailles community as well as Darke County. Versailles FFA delivered fruit to Versailles Kinder Corner, and Brilliant Beginnings. FFA members Courtney Batten and Hallie Mills delivered boxes of fruit to Kinder Corner. Versailles FFA members Sam Gilmore and Xavier Grillot delivered fruit to Brilliant Beginnings.


This year Versailles FFA conducted a toy drive collection with brand new toys distributed through the Versailles Council of Churches, and used toys distributed in surrounding counties through  Toys for Tots drive. Over 5,000 toys were collected and distributed to the families that participated in the Versailles Council of Churches.  A check for over 1,400 dollars was given to the Council of Churches which included canned food drive money as well as checks given to benefit the toy drive.  

Versailles FFA would also like to thank the following locations for donating their facilities to use as toy drop off locations: Versailles Saving and Loans, St. Denis Catholic Church, Holy Family Catholic Church, Versailles Christian Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, Versailles United Methodist Church, Webster United Methodist Church, Second National Bank, US Bank, Dollar General, Versailles Ace Hardware, Johns IGA, and the Versailles School Cafeteria.

FFA would like to thank Dan Brown and Jenny Parin of the Versailles Council of Churches for their assistance with the toy distribution. We would like to once again thank the community for their generosity and area individuals for providing a place for drop-off.  Versailles FFA would like to offer a special thanks to Basil and Linda Mangen and Bill Coomer for all the toys they donated on an individual bases to make the drive the best one yet. 

Versailles FFA also had extra toys left after the toy distribution and some of the extra toys were given to Rustic Hope, the Ronald McDonald House, Dayton Children's Hospital and Mike Meyer of St. Denis Catholic Church who will distribute them on a needed basis.  The Versailles FFA presented the Versailles Council of Churches with gifts for one family the Versailles FFA adopted. The Versailles FFA also sponsored a Can Food Drive the last week of school for all Jr. High and High school students, and donated cans to benefit the Versailles area food pantry sponsored through the Versailles area Council of Churches. The canned food drive was another huge success this year with over 5,000 cans donated!  A special thank- you to all the students and teachers for their generosity and cooperation with this project. The Canned Food Drive was conducted for the Middle School and High School. 


This year, the drive was based on averages in homerooms of the middle school.  Placing 1st in the middle school with a 13.63 average per student was Mrs. Whittaker’s 7th grade homeroom.  Placing 2nd was Mrs. Davis’s homeroom with an 8.3 average and placing third was Mrs. Helman’s homeroom with a 7.48 average cans per person.  A total of 1,117 cans were collected in the middle school.  For the High School, over 4,400 cans were donated. Mr. Jackson’s class placed 4th with an average of 43.25 cans per student, and Mrs. Kremer’s homeroom placed 3rd with an average of 43.5 cans per student. 2nd place was Mr. Harman’s class with an average of 45.67 per student. The winning homeroom was Mrs. Hoying’s 11thgrade homeroom with an average of 47.9 cans per student. The winning class in the middle school and high school will receive a pizza party as a reward. For their great act of generosity, the students in Mr. Jackson, Mrs. Kremer, and Mr. Harmon’s classes will all also receive a donut party. A special thank you to all the staff, students, and parents who supported the Canned Food Drive and Toy Drive. Members of the Versailles FFA that brought the cans to the Council of Churches included: Marcus Berger, Issac Gehret, Emma George, Phillip Grogean, Troy May,  Laura Wuebker and Renea Schmitmeyer.


A special thanks to the Versailles FFA Community Interactions Committee for helping organize the Toy Drive and Canned Food Drive. Members of the Community Interactions Committee include: Paige Platfoot, Katelyn Knapke, Kylie Lyons, Tessa Tyo, and Austin Hecht, and co-chairs included Ashley Petitjean and Melissa Gigandet.
