Junior high solo and ensemble students traveled to Troy middle school early in the morning on March 25th, 2023 to compete in the OMEA District XI solo and ensemble event. Soloists were accompanied by Mrs. Sherry Keith. Students began selecting solos back in December and January. They met with Mrs. Stammen regularly either before or after school for lessons. All soloists must learn five scales (five rudiments for snare drum) and memorize them. They also learn the solo and perform it with good intonation, musical expression and execution. These students did a fantastic job! Eight total events were performed with a total of 7 superiors and 1 excellent rating. Students receiving a superior or excellent rating out of the 5 point scale can purchase state medals. The event took place at Troy Junior high school. You can compete with brass, woodwind, percussion, piano, vocal and string instruments. The adjudicators (judges) had very complimentary comments to give back to the students after their performances. Participating were:
Superior Rating: Naomi Swallow - Flute solo, Monica Evers - Trumpet solo, Alanya Bartram - Snare drum and piano solo, Keegan Rismiller - Trumpet solo and Cayla Leiss - Alto sax solo, and the Versailles Flute Trio (Brooklyn Livingston, Madilyn Wager and Naomi Swallow) Excellent Rating: Crystal Watts - Flute Solo. The students left with smiles on their faces.
