Girls Basketball

On Tuesday, February 6th, the 8th grade Lady Tigers were eliminated in the semifinals of the MAC tournament by Coldwater by a score of 37-11. Rowan Schmitmeyer led the team in scoring with 9 points, followed by Sophie Stammen with 2 points. The Lady Tigers finished their season with an overall record of 11-7. 

The 7th grade Lady Tigers were defeated by Coldwater in the first round of the MAC tournament held at Coldwater on February 3rd. The score was 31-19. Leading in scoring for the tigers was Emily Phlipot with 6 points. Also scoring for the tigers was Abigail Wilker and Kacey Borchers with 4 points, Taelin Partin with 3 points, and Allison Bergman with 2 points.

The 8th grade Lady Tigers defeated Marion Local in the quarterfinals of the MAC tournament on Saturday, February 3rd by a score of 22-17. Allie Wietholter led the team in scoring with 9 points. Additional scoring included Rowan Schmitmeyer with 5 points, Sophie Stammen and Bailey Koesters with 3 points each, and Lillian Selhort with 2 points. The Lady Tigers will face Coldwater in the semifinals on Tuesday, February 6th. 

The 7th grade Lady Tigers defeated Coldwater on Tuesday January 30th in their last regular season game with a score of 24-22. Leading the scoring attack for the lady tigers was Allison Bergman and Abigail Wilker who each had 6 points. Also scoring for Versailles was Taelin Partin and Kacey Borchers each with 5 points and Kyra Bergman with 2 points.

The 8th grade Lady Tigers were defeated by Coldwater on Tuesday, January 30th by a score of 36-18. Rowan Schmitmeyer led the team in scoring with 12 points. Additional scoring included Lillian Selhorst with 5 points and Ella Knapke with 1 point. The Lady Tigers finished the regular season with an overall record of 10-6. 

The 7th grade girls basketball team was defeated by Delphos on Tuesday January 23rd 25-23.  Leading in scoring for Versailles was Kacey Borchers with 10 points. Also scoring for the tigers was Abigail Wilker with 6 points, Allison Bergman, Cecilia Schmitmeyer, and Kyra Bergman each with 2 points, and Emily Phlipot with 1 point. 

The 8th grade Lady Tigers defeated Delphos St John’s on Tuesday, January 23rd by a score of 28-18. The leading scorer was Rowan Schmitmeyer with 12 points. Additional scoring for the Lady Tigers included Ella Knapke with 6 points, Sophie Stammen with 5 points, Allie Wietholter and Margaret Schmitmeyer with 2 points each, and Alexis Francis with 1 point.

The Lady Tigers were defeated at Russia on Saturday January 20th 25-15. Kacey Borchers was the leading scorer for Versailles with 5 points. Also scoring for the tigers was Allison Bergman with 4 points, Abigail Wilker and Monica Schmitmeyer with 2 points each, and Theresa Schmitmeyer and Kyra Bergman each added 1 point. 

The 8th grade Lady Tigers were defeated by Russia on Saturday, January 20th by a score of 50-35. Rowan Schmitmeyer led the team in scoring with 12 points, followed by Allie Wietholter with 8 points. Additional scoring for the Lady Tigers included Ella Knapke and Sophie Stammen with 5 points each, Alexis Francis with 3 points, and Lillian Selhorst with 2 points.


The 7th grade Lady Tigers were defeated by Minster by a score of 36-25. Leading scorers for Versailles; Allison Bergman with 9 points, Abigail Wilker & Kacey Borchers each added 4 points. Also scoring was Kyra Bergman with 3 points, Emily Phlipot & Taelin Partin each with 2 points, & Theresa Schmitmeyer with 1 point.

The 8th grade Lady Tigers were defeated by Minster by a score of 30-12. Sophie Stammen and Korynn Bergman led the team in scoring with 4 points each. Additional scoring for the Lady Tigers included Allie Wietholter and Margaret Schmitmeyer with 2 points each.

The 7th  Lady Tigers were defeated by Anna on Thursday night 35-23. Kacey Borchers was the leading scorer with 12 points. Also scoring for the tigers was Allison Bergman and Abigail Wilker each with 4 points, Kyra Bergman with 2 points, and Theresa Schmitmeyer with 1 point. 

The 8th grade Lady Tigers defeated Anna by a score of 44-28. The leading scorer for the Lady Tigers was Rowan Schmitmeyer with 21 points. Additional scoring included Alexis Francis and Allie Wietholter with 5 points each, Sophie Stammen with 4 points, Ella Knapke with 3 points, and Korynn Bergman, Bailey Koesters, and Margaret Schmitmeyer with 2 points each.

On Tuesday, January 9th, the 8th grade Lady Tigers defeated Parkway by a score of 37-21. Sophie Stammen led the team in scoring with 13 points, followed by Rowan Schmitmeyer with 9 points. Additional scoring for the Lady Tigers included Allie Wietholter with 6 points, Lillian Selhorst, Ella Knapke, Alexis Francis, and Margaret Schmitmeyer with 2 points each and Korynn Bergman with 1 point. 

On December 28th, the 7th grade Lady Tigers defeated Arcanum 25-19. Leading scorer for the Tigers was Kacey Borchers with 11 points. Allison Bergman added 6 points, Monica Schmitmeyer had 3 points, Abigail Wilker and Taelin Partin each added 2 points, and Theresa Schmitmeyer had 1 point. 

The 8th grade Lady Tigers improved to 7-3 on Thursday, December 28th with a 32-12 victory over Arcanum. Rowan Schmitmeyer led the team in scoring with 15 points. Additional scoring for the Lady Tigers included Sophie Stammen with 7 points, Allie Wietholter with 6 points, and Lillian Selhorst and Alexis Francis with 2 points each. 

The 7th grade Lady Tigers lost to Miami East on Thursday December 21st, 48-15. Kacey Borchers led in scoring with 8 points. Also scoring for the Lady Tigers was Allison Bergman with 3 points and EmilyPhlipot &Taelin Partin each with 2 points. 

The 8th grade Lady Tigers defeated Miami East on Thursday, December 21st by a score of 29-18. Rowan Schmitmeyer led the team in scoring with 15 points. Additional scoring for the Lady Tigers included Allie Wietholter with 5 points, Korynn Bergman with 4 points, Lillian Selhorst with 3 points, and Sophie Stammen with 2 points. 

The 7th grade Lady Tigers defeated Ft. Recovery by a score of 20-19. Leading in scoring was Allison Bergman with 14 points. Also adding points for the tigers was Abby Wilker with 3 points, Theresa Schmitmeyer with 2 points, and Kacey Borchers with 1 point. The 8th graders also got a win 37-19. Rowan Schmitmeyer led the team in scoring with 13 points. Additional scoring for the Lady Tigers included Sophie Stammen and Allie Wietholter with 6 points each, Bailey Koesters with 4 points, Ella Knapke and Korynn Bergman with 3 points each, and Alexis Francis with 2 points

The 7th grade lady tigers were defeated by Ft. Loramie in a close game on Thursday December 14th. The score was 19-18, and leading in scoring for the lady tigers was Kacey Borchers with 8 points. Also scoring for the Tigers, and adding 2 points each, was Allison Bergman, Abigail Wilker, Monica Schmitmeyer, Theresa Schmitmeyer, and Taelin Partin. 

The 7th grade Lady Tigers were defeated by New Bremen on Tuesday December 12th by a score of 32-20. Leading scorer for the lady tigers was Allison Bergman with 12 points. Also scoring for Versailles was Kacey Borchers with 4 points and Kyra Bergman and Taelin Partin both added 2 points. 

The 8th grade Lady Tigers were defeated by New Bremen by a score of 22-20. Rowan Schmitmeyer led the team in scoring with 6 points, followed by Ella Knapke and Allie Wietholter with 4 points each. Additional scoring included Lillian Selhorst, Korynn Bergman, and Margaret Schmitmeyer with 2 points each.

The Lady Tigers lost a close game to Russia on Saturday December 9th. The score was 21-22. Allison Bergman and Abigail Wilker led in scoring with 6 points each. Also scoring for the Lady Tigers was  Kacey Borchers with 4 points, Emily Phlipot with 3 points, and Taelin Partin with 2 points. 

The 8th grade Lady Tigers defeated Bradford on Saturday, December 9th by a score of 45-3. Allie Wietholter led a balanced scoring attack with 10 points, followed by Ella Knapke with 9 points and Rowan Schmitmeyer with 8 points. Additional scoring for the Lady Tigers included Alexis Francis with 6 points, Bailey Koesters with 4 points, and Lillian Selhorst, Sophie Stammen, Korynn Bergman, and Margaret Schmitmeyer with 2 points each.

The Lady Tigers lost to the St. Henry Redskins on Thursday December 7th. The score was 46-10. Allison Bergman had 4 points, Kacey Borchers, Theresa Schmitmeyer, and Kyra Bergman all had 2 points. 

The 8th grade Lady Tigers were defeated by St Henry on Thursday, December 7th by a score of 39-23. Ella Knapke led the team in scoring with 8 points. Additional scoring included Allie Wietholter and Rowan Schmitmeyer with 6 points each and Lillian Selhorst with 3 points. The girls played hard.

The 7th grade Lady Tigers were defeated by Marion Local on Tuesday December 5th, with a score of 25-22. Allison Bergman led the tigers with 10 points followed by Kacey Borchers and Taelin Partin each with 4 points. Also scoring for the Tigers was Abby Wilker and Monica Schmitmeyer each with 2 points. 

8th grade Lady Tigers defeated Marion Local by a score of 35-20. The leading scorer for the Lady Tigers was Rowan Schmitmeyer with 15 points, followed by Allie Wietholter with 10 points. Additional scoring included Korynn Bergman with 4 points and Alexis Francis, Bailey Koesters, and Margaret Schmitmeyer with 2 points each.

The 7th grade Lady Tigers traveled to New Knoxville on Tuesday November 28th for their first MAC game of the season. The Lady Tigers defeated the Rangers 32-9.  Allison Bergman led in scoring with 10 points. Also scoring for Versailles: Kacey Borchers with 8 points, Abby Wilker with 6 points, Taelin Partin with 4 points, and Emily Phlipot and Cecilia Schmitmeyer both added 2 points. 

On Tuesday, November 28th the 8th grade Lady Tigers were defeated by New Knoxville by a score of 37-28. Allie Wietholter led the team in scoring with 8 points, followed by Margaret Schmitmeyer and Rowan Schmitmeyer with 6 points each. Additional scoring for the Lady Tigers included Ella Knapke with 5 points and Sophie Stammen with 3 points.

The 7th grade Lady Tigers opened their season on Saturday November 25th with a home matchup against Tri-Village. The Lady Tigers were defeated 11-31. Scoring for Versailles was Allison Bergman with 6 points, Kacey Borchers and Cecilia Schmitmeyer both with 2 points, and Theresa Schmitmeyer with 1 point. 

The 8th grade Lady Tigers opened the 2023-2024 season on Saturday, November 25th with a 48-25 victory over Tri-Village. Allie Wietholter led the team in scoring with 18 points, followed by Rowan Schmitmeyer with 12 points. Additional scoring for the Lady Tigers included Alexis Francis with 6 points, Sophie Stammen with 5 points, Bailey Koesters with 4 points and Korynn Bergman with 3 points.

Boys Basketball

On February 10th the 7th grade boys basketball team beat Marion Local 34-13 in the MAC tournament quarterfinals. Scoring for the Tigers Drew Porter 6, Will Keiser 4, Ian Hemmelgarn 6, Arian Drees 9, Nolan Shardo 7, Blaize Brandewie 1, and Asher Ahrens 1.

On February 6th, the 7th grade boys basketball team beat New Knoxville 40-23. They will finish their regular season with a record of 10-6. Scoring for the Tigers; Simon Broering 7, Drew Porter 4, Ian Hemmelgarn 8, Arian Drees 10, Nolan Shardo 3, Blaize Brandewie 6, and Kaden Bergman 2.

On 2-6-24 the Versailles 8th grade boys basketball team lost to New Knoxville 30-42. Scoring for the Tigers: Ethan Heitkamp-9, Oliver Brunswick-6, Wyatt Asbury-6, Seth Bruns-3, Damien Barga-6. The Tigers ended the regular season 7-9 and will play New Knoxville again in the first round of the tournament.

On February 1st the 7th grade boys basketball team beat Coldwater 26-24. A late layup by Ian Hemmelgarn gave the Tigers a 26-24 lead with just 13 seconds left in the game. On the following Coldwater possession, Arian Drees had a big block to secure victory for the Tigers. Scoring for the Tigers Simon Broering, 2 Will Keiser 3, Ian Hemmelgarn 7, Arian Drees 4, Nolan Shardo 7, and Kaden Bergman 3.

On 2-1-24 the Versailles 8th grade boys basketball team lost to Coldwater 25-41. Scoring for the Tigers: Ethan Heitkamp-7, Oliver Brunswick-2, Wyatt Asbury-7, Seth Bruns-2, Damien Barga-7. The boys played hard against the physical Coldwater team.

On 1-25-24 the 7th grade boys basketball team beat Delphos St. John’s 34-31. Scoring for the Tigers Simon Broering 8, Drew Porter 6, Ian Hemmelgarn 7, Arian Drees 3, Nolan Shardo 2, Sam Mwakabonga 2, Kaden Bergman 6.

On 1-25-24 the Versailles 8th grade boys basketball team lost 30-36 to Delphos St. John’s. Scoring for the Tigers: Ethan Heitkamp-10, Noah Koopman-4, Wyatt Asbury-4. Seth Bruns-7, Damien Barga-2, Jacob Poeppelman-3

On 1-18-24 the Versailles 8th grade boys basketball team beat Minster 41-30. The tigers put on the defensive in the 4th only giving up 3 points while scoring 13 points. Scoring for the tigers: Ethan Heitkamp-13 Oliver Brunswick-6 Wyatt Asbury-10 Seth Bruns-2 Damien Barga-10

On 1-13-24 the Versailles 8th grade boys basketball team beat Ft Loramie 53-22. The tigers played great having 8 scorers. The defense was on fire today cause a bunch of turnovers. The Versailles 8th grade boys basketball team beat Parkway 43-21. The Tigers had a great first quarter making the score 15-0. Scoring for the tigers: Ethan Heitkamp-15 Oliver Brunswick-4 Noah Koopman-4 Wyatt Asbury-2 Seth Bruns-7 Damien Barga-8 Jacob Poeppleman-3

On January 4th, the 7th grade boys basketball team beat Fort Recovery 35-28. Scoring for the Tigers Simon Broering 5,  Drew Porter 3,  Will Keiser 2,  Ian Hemmelgarn 9,  Nolan Shardo 9,  Asher Ahrens 1,  and Kaden Bergman 6.

The Versailles 8th grade boys basketball team beat Fort Recovery 47-29. All of the Tigers played well only giving up 15 points in the first 3 quarters.  Scoring for the Tigers: Ethan Heitkamp-16,  Oliver Brunswick-5,  Brett Pulfer-3,  Wyatt Asbury-4,  Seth Bruns-7,  Damien Barga-9, &  Jacob Poeppleman-3 

On 12-28–23 the 7th grade boy’s basketball team beat Anna 23-14. Scoring for the Tigers Drew Porter 6, Will Keiser 2, Ian Hemmelgarn 6, Nolan Shardo 5, Sam Mwakabonga 2, and Kaden Bergman 2.

The 7th grade boys basketball team beat Newton 30-26 on December 21st. Scoring for the Tigers; Simon Broering 4, Drew Porter 4, Ian Hemmelgarn  10, Arian Drees 4, Nolan Shardo 6, and Kaden Bergman 2.

On 12-21-23 the Versailles 8th grade boys basketball team beat Newton 45-7. The Tigers played fast and hard the entire game starting with a 14-0 run first quarter, and then scoring 17 in the second and only giving up 4 points. Scoring for the Tigers: Ethan Heitkamp-7, Brett Pulfer-6, Noah Koopman-6, Wyatt Asbury-3, Seth Bruns-8, & Damien Barga-15 

The 8th grade boys basketball took a recent loss to New Bremen 13-27. Scoring for the tigers: Noah Koopman-2, Wyatt Asbury-2 , Damien Barga-6, &  Jacob Poeppelman-3. The team beat Arcanum 40-22. The Tigers went on a 24-7 run in the second and third quarter. Scoring for the tigers: Ethan Heitkamp-12,  Oliver Brunswick-2,  Noah Koopman-2,  Wyatt Asbury-11,  Seth Bruns-6, &  Damien Barga-7

7th grade boys basketball team beat New Bremen 32-27. A great second half helped get the Tigers their 3rd win of the season improving to a record of 3-1. Scoring for the Tigers: Simon Broering, 5 Drew Porter 7, Will Keiser 4, Ian Hemmelgarn 3, Arian Drees 4, and Kaden Bergman 9.

The Versailles 8th grade boys basketball team lost to St Henry 36-54. Scoring for the tigers: Ethan Heitkamp-15  Oliver Brunswick-2 Brett Pulfer-1 Seth Bruns-4 Damion Barga-14. Tigers are 1-2 now

The 7th grade boys basketball team beat Marion Local 24-19 in a very physical game. Scoring for the Tigers: Broering 5,  Porter 5,  Hemmelgarn 2, Shardo 2,  Brandewie 4,  Ahrens 2, &  Bergman 4

The Versailles 7th grade boys basketball team beat Miami East 52-12. Scoring for the tigers: Drew porter 15 Will Keiser 3 Ian Hemmelgarn 10 Arian Drees 2 Sam Mwakabonga 6 Blaize Brandewie 6 Asher Ahrens 2 Kaden Bergman 8

The Versailles 8th grade boys basketball team beat Miami East 43-40. Scoring for the tigers: Ethan Heitkamp-13, Oliver Brunswick-4, Noah Koopman-6, Seth Bruns-2, Damian Barga-13, & Jacob Poeppelman-5

Wrestling

To conclude the Jr High Wrestling season, the Tigers went to Elida and competed in the Bulldog Invitational. Versailles won the tournament with 224.5 points, while second place Celina finished with 206.5 points. It has been a great season, and the wrestlers have all learned so much since November!

Versailles had wrestlers on the podium in 12 of the 16 weight classes. Finishing fourth were Liam Barga, Isaac Batty, and Sam Schmitmeyer. Earning a bronze medal were Ian Bergman, Carter Francis, and Leo Gehret. Second place finishers were Noah Rhoades, Sam Stammen, Noah Hayes, and Ben Kaiser. Standing atop the podium were Reece Magoteaux and Conall Miller.

On Tuesday, January 30th, the jr high wrestling team traveled to Coldwater with the high school team. Wrestling took place in The Pit, so it was close quarters and high energy. The Cavaliers did not win a match in the dual, but they did earn 6 points for the forfeit at heavyweight. The final score was 83-6! The Tigers will wrap up their season on Saturday at Elida.

Saturday, January 27th, Versailles hosted the St Marys Quint in our high school gym. There were two mats set up, and each of the five teams wrestled all of the other teams. In the first round, Versailles beat Spencerville 72-6. The Tigers dominated Greenville in the second round, and the final score was 71-3. The next team to challenge Versailles was St Marys. The Roughriders were able to put up a few wins, but ultimately fell to the Tigers with a score of 63-30. Versailles had a bye in the fourth round, and then faced Celina in the final round. This was a re-match of the championship dual from last weekend, and the energy was high! After 8 matches, the Tigers lead 30-6. The second half of the Bulldogs lineup is strong, but Versailles was able to pull out some big wins to seal the victory with a final score of 44-30! The jr high wrestlers will travel with the high school team on Tuesday to wrestle the Cavaliers in Coldwater.

On Thursday, January 18th, the Jr High wrestling team traveled to Miami East with the high school team for a dual meet. We still had a few wrestlers out due to illness and injury, but the Tigers who were there wrestled strong. It was a very close dual, and Versailles was only up by one point when Hunter Wise pinned his opponent in the last match of the meet! Our Tigers won 42-35. 

On Saturday, January 20th, the Tigers hosted the 5th Annual Versailles MS Wrestling Dual Tournament with 15 teams representing 17 schools. In the first round, Versailles beat Springboro 69-22. The St Mary’s Roughriders were the next to fall to the Tigers, with a score of 88-6. The Tigers went on to defeat a team of Parkway and Ada 82-6. In the last match in Pool A, Versailles beat National Train 81-9. At this point in the day, the Tigers were headed into the Championship Pool with Celina and Northmont. In the Middle School gym, the Tiger wrestlers dominated Northmont with a score of 61-22. In the final match of the tournament, Versailles relied on some great early match wins from the smaller weights to beat the Celina Bulldogs 46-36! 

The team is made up of Noah Rhoades, Liam Barga, Reece Magoteaux, Ryan Magoteaux, Ian Bergman, Sam Stammen, Carter Francis, Leo Gehret, Isaac Batty, Colton Patton, Conall Miller, Gavin Riffell, Noah Hayes, Kane Williams, Russell Winner, Ben Kaiser, Sam Schmitmeyer, and Hunter Wise. Each of these wrestlers have won matches and contributed to the team’s success so far this year. The Tigers have two more weeks of competition left this season, and their next match is Saturday, January 27th when Versailles will host the St Marys tournament.

On Saturday, January 13th, the Jr High Wrestlers traveled north to Lima Shawnee to participate in the Shawnee JH Wrestling Championships. The Tigers were missing three wrestlers due to injury and illnesses, but they still ended up in second place with a total team score of 217. Ryan Magoteaux placed 6th for the Tigers. Placing 4th were Sam Stammen, Leo Gehret, and Conall Miller. Sam Schmitmeyer earned a bronze medal for Versailles, while Liam Barga and Isaac Batty earned silver medals. Winning all of their matches and bringing home the gold were Reece Magoteaux (with 3 pins), Carter Francis (with an amazing Sudden Victory overtime win in the finals), Noah Hayes (with 3 pins), and Ben Kaiser (with 3 pins). It was a great day for the young Tigers, and their next match will be with the High School team at Miami East on Thursday, January 18th.

On Tuesday, January 9th, the jr high wrestlers traveled to Covington with the high school team. Covington did not have a full line up, so several of the wrestlers received forfeits. Those forfeit points combined with some really good wins gave the Tigers a resounding victory. Versailles won the dual with a score of 67-24. The jr high wrestling team heads to Lima Shawnee on Saturday, January 13th.

On Thursday, January 4th, the jr high wrestlers hosted Brookville and Troy at the old high school gym. The Tigers beat the Brookville Blue Devils 58-27. Versailles followed that up with a win over the Troy Trojans 50-30. 

On Saturday, January 6th, the jr high wrestlers traveled to Wapakoneta for an invitational. The Tigers dominated the tournament, and took first place by scoring 295 points, while the host school placed second with 220 points. Placing fifth for the Tigers: Ryan Magoteaux, Leo Gehret, and Russell Winner. Third place finishers were: Carter Francis and Conall Miller. Runners up were: Noah Rhoades, Liam Barga, Noah Hayes, Ben Kaiser, and Sam Schmitmeyer. Champions were: Reece Magoteaux, Isaac Batty, and Hunter Wise. The Tigers will wrestle next at Covington on Tuesday night.

On Thursday, December 21st, the jr high wrestlers had a dual meet at home against Sidney. The jr high Tigers wrestled on a mat right beside the high school Tigers. The jr high matmen had a great showing, and the final score was Versailles 72 and Sidney 15. Tiger wrestlers earning a pin were Liam Barga,

On Saturday, December 16th, the Jr High wrestling team traveled to Vandalia for a quad meet. In their first dual, our Tigers beat Vandalia 50-16. The next match found our Tigers beating Miami East 43-30. To finish up the day, Versailles defeated Beavercreek 70-21. All of the wrestlers were able to get matches today, as there were a number of exhibition matches in addition to the dual meets. The Tigers will wrestle at home vs Sidney on Thursday, December 21st.

On Saturday, December 9th, the junior high wrestling team competed in the 49th Annual Milton-Union Bill Grafflin Jr. Bulldog invitational. Our wrestlers got first place, as a team, with a score of 215.5, while Miami East placed second with a total of 159.0 points. Versailles had twelve wrestlers who reached the podium at the end of the day. Placing fourth for the Tigers was Liam Barga at 86 pounds, Leo Gehret at 116 pounds, and Sam Schmitmeyer at 172 pounds. Placing third was Noah Rhoades at 80 pounds, Ian Bergman at 104 pounds, Carter Francis at 110 pounds, and Conall Miller at 134 pounds. Receiving a silver medal was Reece Magoteaux at 92 pounds, Ryan Magoteaux at 98 pounds, Isaac Batty at 122 pounds, and Ben Kaiser at 160 pounds. The Tigers had one champion at 142 pounds, and that was Noah Hayes. The next meet for the team is Saturday, December 16 th at Vandalia.
