January is School Board Recognition Month, and Versailles Exempted Village Schools are celebrating its board members for their dedication and commitment to the district and its students.
Today's Board Member Highlight is on Board President Jake Broering.
Jake Broering resides in suburbs of Willowdell with his wife Christy and their six children: Greta, Simon, Delia, Vayda, Colin and Lyla. He enjoys spending free time attending kids activities, sporting events, and camping trips.
Jake is an Engineering Manager at Midmark where he has worked for over 20 years. He has worked in several different capacities in both New Product Development and Manufacturing Operations. Jake is a 2001 graduate of Versailles, holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University, and a Master of Science in Business Administration from Wright State University.
Jake currently serves on the Board's Legislative and Policy Committee. Jake began his service to the students, staff, and community as a Board member in January of 2020. His current term runs through December 31, 2027.
Mr. Broering, thank you for your service to the school system!

This is Superintendent Dave Harmon following up our earlier decisions regarding travel conditions for Saturday, 1/11/25.
Thanks to the road crews, we will be opening up for all remaining events previously scheduled for the day at 10:00 am and after.
The girls and boys basketball games along with girls bowling is currently on as scheduled this afternoon.

HS Swimming @ Jay County - Cancelled
HS Bowling, JV/Varsity Girls Basketball, JV/Varsity Boys Basketball - Decision will be made later in the morning.
All JH athletic practices/contests are cancelled for Saturday, Jan. 11th, 2025.
This is Superintendent Dave Harmon. Due to the road conditions, ALL school activities for today, Saturday, January 11, 2025 are closed until at least 10:00 am. We will continue to evaluate road conditions with the hope that travel conditions improve and that we may be able to go forward with events that are planned for later in the day. If there are changes, we'll communicate that directly to coaches.
Boys bowling is cancelled. Currently, Girls Bowling in the afternoon is still on as scheduled.
The JH Boys Basketball game vs. Ft. Loramie has been cancelled for tomorrow. All other events are currently on as scheduled.
The Student created and student-run business "The Den" will have Gourmet Popcorn available for purchase at Saturday's boys basketball game vs Franklin Monroe!

Today, Thursday, January 9th is National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (L.E.A.D.)
In addition to the greater area law enforcement that we are very grateful for, specifically today, we would like to call out our very own Versailles Police Officer and Versailles Schools' School Resource Officer, Officer Jason Penny.
We are very blessed to have Officer Penny with us every day. Officer Penny has a great relationship with our students, and can be seen anywhere in the building and doing anything he can to help the staff and students, from checking that doors are secured, to speaking with students in the hallway, to helping monitor and clean up around lunch time. He does it all. We are grateful for your service.
If you see an Officer of the Law today, please make sure to tell them "Than k You!" and if you want to specifically send a note of encouragement to him directly, feel free to either reply to this post (on Facebook) and/or send Officer Penny a note of encouragement at jason.penny@vtigers.org.

This is Superintendent Dave Harmon with an important weather-related message. Due to the fact that the County plans to remain on a level 2 emergency throughout the night, the district will start on a 2-hour delay for tomorrow, Tuesday, January 7, 2025. District staff will still drive in the morning to evaluate the safety of the road conditions. We will also consult with the information from the county about any potential downgrades from level two to level one in making the decision if we were to close for the day.
